Why see A View From The Bridge?

MILLER'S TRAGEDY: A PSYCHO-SOCIAL MASTERPIECE

Known as one of the great classics of the twentieth century, A View from the Bridge is the work of the highly accomplished and celebrated playwright Arthur Miller, whose other works include The Crucible and Death of a Salesman. Lindsay Posner's superb revival of this rarely staged play features an evocative soundscore by Adam Cork and colossal design by Christopher Oram.

Eddie is played by Ken Stott, renowned for his TV and film roles in The Vice, Rebus and Shallow Grave as well as for his theatre work (God of Carnage and Heroes). Eddie's wife is played by Academy Award-nominated actress, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (The Color of Money, Abyss and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves).

Set in 1950s Brooklyn, Eddie Carbone is a rough but decent dockworker who lives a good life with his wife and their niece Catherine who they have raised as their own daughter. Being a former immigrant himself, Eddie agrees to house and protect two of his wife's Italian cousins.

But when Catherine falls in love with one of them, Eddie is plagued by a sudden and inappropriate jealousy and reports the immigrants to the authorities, thus betraying not only his family, but his community and his own principles.
