OOH NICHOLAS HYNTNER

In my top 3 productions of Shakespeare plays in 47 years of theatre going. Amazing staying, acting and, of course, sure ting. Thank you . Worth travelling 80 miles to see! Great view from gallery 3 B seating.

ORIGINAL, CONTEMPORARY AND EXCITING

An enthralling production - much praise is due to the cast who were uniformly excellent but the most original elements were to be experienced in the staging -in particular, the use of promenading punters as "The Mob", turning them from an appreciative audience to, at times, a threatening and oppressive presence which recalled the ghastly Trump rallies in the States. In this way, and a number of others, the links to our contemporary world of Trump and Brexit were made clear but not so much that the play was distorted from its original intentions. My fifteen year old son, watching only his second live Shakespeare (we were lucky enough to see Andrew Scott's Hamlet last year) was gripped throughout. Highly recommended!

NOT PERFECT BUT CLOSE

Overall this is an exceptional production that works extremely well. The balance and pace of the production are thoughtful and satisfying. The temporal transposition, so suitable for this play works beautifully. Highly recommended. Cassius, Caesar and Anthony are all superb throughout. Brutus grows through the evening but ultimately seemed miscast in this particular role. View from 3A was good, but you really had to sit forward much of the time. Sorry to those in 3B behind. The promenaders below must have had a great experience, but they surely needed stamina for 2 hours. Ate at Tom Simmons around the corner beforehand - also excellent food and reasonable prices (with good veggie choices). All in all an unforgettable first visit to the Bridge.

TREMENDOUS PRODUCTION

An amazing evening of Shakespeare in the theatre. All the leading actors where uniformly excellent (though not completely convinced by the casting of Ben Wishaw as Brutus). For me, the stand-out performance was Michelle Fairley as Cassius. The biggest plaudits though must go to the director, Nicholas Hytner, and anyone else who had a hand in coming up with the idea for this incredible promenade production. If you can bear to stand for two hours, do make sure you see it from the pit. It's an amazing experience being part of the Roman crowd and in a small way being part of the production as well as being a spectator. Both bringing the costumes up to date and making half the conspirators women worked really well even though I had been a bit dubious before I went. I'd really recommend anybody see it whether you're new to the play as my daughter was or you've seen it several times and think you know it as I did. Do book tickets in the Pit if you can.

SUPERB PRODUCTION

Superb, A ++. Brilliant production, excellent on all levels. The Bridge Theatre is a great addition to the South Bank, in my opinion its location has one of the best vistas of London. Look forward to seeing more productions there.

EXCITING AND RELEVANT

One of the best productions I’ve ever seen and the cast give it their all. Exciting and compelling - a wonderful two hours in the theatre.

4.0 star rating Mary from London,

SEEN ON SCREEN

My first live screening, at the Arthouse Cinema Crouch End. Pacey and poetic rendition of the bard s political insights. Mass manipulation through cunning, oratory and the cult of a "great" leader is deftly illustrated, echoing current affairs in the US, Russia etc. A 16th century version of the facebook/cambridge analytics scandal is seen, in the persuasion of Brutus by Cassius to kill Caesar through blitzing his postbox with fake appeals ostensibly from different Roman citizens. Terrific ensemble acting throughout, the electricity between the conspirators for example. Battle scenes witnessed in the cinema were hugely loud and horrible with surround sound and being reminded of terrorist attack at concerts. In the end I accepted the scenes however as a portrayal of the truth of war.
