Why See Amour?
Michel Legrand's enchanting and fantastical musical, Amour, makes its long-awaited UK debut at the Charing Cross Theatre this May. Featuring a score by the famous composer, Amour tells the story of Dusoleil, an unassuming French civil servant who yearns for a more magical life. Directed by Hannah Chissick and Choreographed by Matt Cole, Amour is a musical about daring to dream, self-belief, and creating your own magic.
Debuting on Broadway in 2002, Amour garnered five Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical. With English lyrics by Jeremy Sams, Amour is adapted from the 1943 short story (Le Passe-Muraille) by Marcel Ayme.
What is Amour about?
In 1950s Paris, Dusoleil passes his drab days as a civil servant fantasising about the beautiful Isabelle, who is locked away by her controlling husband. When Dusoleil is suddenly magically able to walk through walls he sets out for a more sparkling life. Stealing from the rich to give to poverty-stricken post-war Parisians, Dulsoleil strikes up the courage to try and woo Isabelle. Will Dusoleil finally manage to live the life that he's always dreamed of?
