SHHH... DON'T TELL

"Shhh! Don't tel..." Spoilers alert! Nah, just kidding. Remember The Mousetrap where at the end of the play the audience is asked ro keep a secret about how the story unravels. Same here so, no darlings, im not telling you about the culmination, no no no. Nevertheless, i will tell you my verdict. Excellent play!!! Im such a chicken and not a fan of horror movies at all so inevitably i was slightly apprehensive. There are a few shivering momemts, when the stage getting lit in a red neon light square and these flashes are accompanied by a screamđŸ˜± But the play is more emotional rather than scary. It's about souls and how they may, or may not! connect supernaturally. Or perhaps it is normal that our souls, our dreams, our love, our thoughts link elsewhere and give us that impulse when we suddenly think: I saw it somewhere, i know it somehow, it happened before or how is it possible. I'll tell you just a few details. Julia has a baby and as we know emotions fly high, when new mums have sleep deprivation and overwhelmed with the mothering love. She starts seeing things. Aren't we all when we don't sleep, huh? These things - someone is walking, someone is crying happen at precisely 2:22 at night. Creepy. And she needs to protect her baby from whatever it is. Julia is trying to explain to her hubby and their friends, who are visiting for dinner, that the house is haunted. They are debating, arguing, her husband being very sceptical. Those foxes noises in their bacl yard are hotrible. I have them too by the way, totally creepy even if you don't believe in ghosts. Did they find out about the ghost. I can't tell you. Julia is played by Lilly Alen, other actors are Julia Chan, Jake Wood ( EastEnders), Hadley Frazer. The play is in NoĂ«l Coward Theatre until October, highly recommend! onlyme.london.and.beyond #222AGhostStory

ENGAGING AND ENTERTAINING

A solid modern script that holds your attention all the way through and doesn’t disappoint. Yes, it’s not Shakespeare- thankfully, as you can see that elsewhere. Definitely recommend

FANTASTIC

I took 2 of my foster children and my granddaughter to have the experience of a play as opposed to a musical and they absolutely loved it. Jake was hilarious and the whole cast were 👏👏👏 Thank you

JUST LOVED IT

I wasn’t sure what to expect, I’m a fan of the spooky and scary so I was intrigued to see how this would work on the stage. I was gripped from start to finish, I wanted to rush the interval and didn’t want the play to end. I felt connected to the complex relationships of the characters, and this play offered a much deeper experience than I could have hoped for. What an absorbing, sensory, sad and edgy performance. Loved it.

FANTASTIC SHOW

The most entertaining afternoon I’ve had in a while - gripping story and incredible cast

GREAT ENTERTAINMENT

Well I am obviously not a sophisticated theatregoer like some of the negative reviewers on here but I thoroughly enjoyed 2:22. Thought whole cast excellent lay off Lily Allen she was great! Possibly a bit overlong but the storyline was good entertainment and a decent twist at the end! Worth seeing!

FABULOUS

Reading some of the 1 * reviews I’m not sure I watched the same play. I go to the theatre a lot with work and always get distracted or zone out. This was amazing from cast to set to direction to sound. It was relatable believable and didn’t feel like I was watching. Play. The cynics of Lily Allen jumping from pop star to actor are unfounded she was excellent as were all the cast. I think this is way better than WIB well done cast and crew

GRIPPING!

I absolutely loved this play. Having read some of the earlier 1 star reviews I wonder if the show just really improved as the weeks went on because this was one of the best shows I've seen! The acting and script between the 4 characters is gripping, with the audience hanging on every word. There was a standing ovation at the end and it was clear the whole theatre was as enraptured as me! The horror story was jumpy enough to keep the tension high, but it was the character interactions, silences, subtle exchanges, that really stole it for me. Jake Wood brought lovely moments of humour beautifully softening the tension of other elements. As the lights came on, I turned to my guest and exclaimed: I want to come back tomorrow night! Highly recommended.

LOVED IT

A brilliant play. Great acting, funny, emotional & a few little jumpy moments. Ending was superb.

GREAT!

We saw this on New Years Day and throughly enjoyed it. I was the only one in the stalls who gave a standing ovation lol! But it deserved it so I wasn’t too embarrassed! Great script delivered brilliantly, it’s funny, gritty and spooky. Great cast and a fab twist at the end too.

5.0 star rating Rachael from London, England

BRILLIANT!

I went with high expectations and was not disappointed. The story had heart, the plot was clever and it was laugh out loud funny which was a genuine surprise. My husband and I loved it.

IGNORE THE SELF ACCLAIMED CRITICS

Happened to be in London and happened to stumble across this play. I knew nothing about it but as one my favourites is the woman in black I was prepared for it to be jumpy. It was! The audiences reaction got on my nerves a little bit to start off with but reading the reviews I’d prefer to be with people that just went with the flow of the production rather than being sat next to a critic! I think if you feel all over goose bumps when relaying the story, then, as a whole I’d say it was a sign of an enjoyable show. The acting was great and I really engaged with the characters.

5.0 star rating Matt from London, England

THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE

I went to see this play on the back of many personal recommendations and was not disappointed. It’s hard to write a review for this production without giving anything away, so I won’t go into the story at all. The characters took me a few moments to align with. They initially felt quite 2 dimensional, but you soon realise that there is more to them than you first suspect. I’m not a jumpy person and didn’t get caught by the jumps (although plenty in the auditorium did) although there were a couple of moments where my arm hair stood on end. The cast were delightful in this 3rd incarnation of the play, each fitting their character well. The set is beautiful, simple, but very much part of the story. The character of Ben is there mostly for two reasons, firstly to move the story along, as the “stranger” he creates a lot of the exposition for the audience. Secondly, he has pretty much every comedic line in the show. Well worth a watch, but it’s a mystery rather than a horror.

5.0 star rating Ruth from London, England

SSSSSHHH DON’T TELL

This play was amazing I loved every minute. The new cast lead my Tom Felton and Mandip Gill are fantastic actors and really believable. Left really happy loved every minute. Definitely recommend this show makes you think, but is also nice watch. Not overly scary, few jump scares but don’t go thinking it’s a horror because it’s not.

5.0 star rating Susanne from London, England

REALLY ENJOYED THIS ONE

Unfortunately 75% of the cast members were taken ill on the night we went but as they say " The show must go on" and it did, the understudy's did a great job. I must admit towards the end of the first half I thought where is this going and how is it going to develop into something. However the ending is brilliant and knitted the rest of the play together perfectly. It's not a show you would want to see twice having seen the ending but I did feel like I wanted to dissect the play when I knew what I knew.

5.0 star rating Grania from London, England

EXCELLENT!

I generally find theatre boring and pretentious, but I liked the sound of this. We were not disappointed - some clever interweaving of class, relationship and gender issues - I was engaged all the way through. The ending is impactful, thought provoking and delivers the enjoyment of reviewing what subsequently prove to be clues earlier in the play. I also enjoyed thinking about what the characters might have done after the ending - wonder whether they would have stayed in the house or not? Cannot understand the poor reviews - best new play play I've seen in years - both entertaining and thought provoking.

IGNORE THE NAYSAYERS!

Fantastic play, gripping, well acted and plenty of scares. Tom Felton and his fellow actors played all their parts well. This play has a great balance of apprehension...which the audience brings with them...sometimes you can hear a pin drop....and comedy which lightens the mood and stops you living on the edge of your seat for 2 hours. Those familiar with Danny Robins podcasts will recognise some elements which only adds to the entertainment.

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT

Absolutely fantastic ! Loved every second start to finish. Highly recommend.

MORE THAN JUST A GHOST STORY

I was expecting spookiness and wasn't disappointed but the social commentary and reflections on human relationships were insightful and cutting in the best way. Who you identify with and recognise in the characters and their dynamic will have as much of an impact on your experience as what you believe about ghosts. Some have missed the emotion and found comedy rather than staying with the discomfort. There are moments of humour to balance the tensions and the scares but you could miss what's great about the play if that's what you stay with. I know what I saw.

5.0 star rating Warren Hamilton from London, England

CLEVER PLOT WITH A TWIST.

Saw this play yesterday. The cast were great. The Felix Scott character, Sam, was played by Nigel Allen who was standing in for the absent Felix and was brilliant. The story line is intriguing and you are kept on the edge of your seat from the start. Interspersed with bits of comedy the story flows between pleasant bickering and banter to full on arguments which all build up nicely to the twist at the end. Entertaining? - yes. Intriguing? - yes. Stylish? - yes. Would I recommend it? - most certainly. The best Sunday afternoon I have spend in a long time.

GRIPPING

Just on my way home from seeing this at the Lyric. So exciting, with very true characters. There wasn't a moment to think about anything else, completely engrossing.

A MUST SEE....

Booked a day before show with great seats and reduced price. Well worth the watch with lots of dramatic sound and lighting. "Max Branning".... Jake Wood was fab and a laugh a minute with his witty ways. Cheryl was good also and played the role well. Its definitely worth seeing . maybe even twice!!!

SATISFYINGLY SPOOKY GHOST STORY

Something spooky is happening in Jenny's house at precisely 2:22 am. She can hear footsteps in the baby's room, but when she goes in to check, no one is there. Husband Sam is sceptical. He's a scientist after all, a lecturer who dismisses her fears with rational explanations. Their dinner party guests are persuaded to stay until 2:22 to see if the ghost appears. This is a wordy and intelligent play about science and class and belief and faith and relationships all set against the frenetic backdrop of a really satisfyingly spooky ghost story. The denouement when it comes is surprising and clever and makes you want to watch it again to spot the clues. The theatre is super crowded with no attempt at social distancing (the interval is a scrum, especially in the stalls) as an fyi for those attending. We were thoroughly entertained.

4.0 star rating Jayne from London, England

THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE

Went to see this with my daughter who is a major Tom Felton fan. That aside, this a a really good play. The set was incredible, if it hadn't been for the stage floor, I could have easily been fooled into thinking it was a real house. Not as spooky as I'd have liked, so don't worry if you're not a fan of the "ghost" genre, it's more about relationships between different people, the dynamics and emotions. With a hefty bit of comedy thrown in. No need to write a synopsis, enough people have done that already, suffice to say its very good and definitely worth a watch.

4.0 star rating Louise from London, England

SUBTLE HINTS TO THE ENDING

I think the people who gave the play poor ratings missed the subtle clues to the ending. Without giving it away think of the bit about paying for the drinks. There were many more hints but I didn’t pick up on them until after the show. My only criticism was that the microphones needed to be turned up a bit. I felt I missed some of the dialogue-especially the female characters. When you go to the cinema the volume can be too loud but you can hear every word. it’s more important in the theatre as much more is left to your imagination ie in this case the baby in the bedroom and the newly fitted bathroom. However, I was really entertained by the play and overall loved it.

4.0 star rating from London, England

FUN AND ENJOYED THIS CONTEMPORARY TALE.

I enjoyed the contemporary stage set and themes and issues that the dialogue contained. Initially I found the actors quite amdram but later realised this is deliberate as no one is their real selves in front of others at a dinner party. It’s not highbrow theatre, it is fun. There’s so much to enjoy. It made for a very enjoyable time and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending it.

ALI AND LINDA AT 2.22 A GHOST STORY

Good story of what I heard. But I really struggled to hear what the actors were saying especially Lilly Allen which really spoilt it for me, I went to the first preview showing on Tuesday 3rd.. My friend was the same we where sat in the Royal cicle, we had a good view of the stage the lighting was good. But the whole thing was spoilt by the sound and not being able to follow the plot. I'm from Wakefield Yorkshire it took me a while to save for this as I'm a big Theatre and Lilly Allen fan but came out disappointed đŸ˜„. If you have any free tickets for the actual play with hopefully amended sounds, my friend and I would happily review and watch again 😂.

3.0 star rating Marie from London, England

UNDERWHELMING

I found this to be more of a comedy rather than a supernatural thriller. (The only laughs coming courtesy of Jake Wood, who steals the show). Script was a bit lazy, characters unlikeable, and story going off in tangents that went nowhere. Lily Allen’s character spends most of the play shouting. However, a decent night out at the theatre for those who have missed the experience over the past year.

3.0 star rating Ross from London, England

ENJOYABLE BUT MAKES ZERO SENSE

Look, I enjoyed my night out. Great acting, some nice lines of dialogue, great staging, a few scares (although to be fair, they really could have upped the spook / scare factor significantly). But without spoiling anything, the ending is a load of rubbish, which undermines the entire play. I’m amazed such shoddy plotting even made it past the first draft of the script. It’s a shame as it feels like an opportunity lost.

3.0 star rating Chris from Devon, England

NOT AWFUL - BUT NOT GREAT

The plot has a twist, and the scenery is well created and it should provide a really good performance - but it doesn’t. Laura Whitmore is unconvincing - suddenly escalating into annoyance or anger without any natural progression. She delivers her lines without conviction, and is frankly the weakest of the cast. Others are better, and there is some good characterisation from Matt Willis. The frequent use of noise and lighting effects doesn’t add a great deal to the experience, the noises being ridiculously loud and almost comic as a result. The twist at the end (and no, I won’t reveal it) is relatively predictable but contained an element of pathos which would have been enhanced had the acting stepped up to the mark at that point - and it didn’t. Overall, had I known the quality before booking I wouldn’t have gone - but still enjoyed it, I just wanted it to be better!

3.0 star rating Audrey from Cumbria England

PLOT AND ACTING COULD BE BETTER

The premise of the play is good but once I knew the end I felt it could have been written better , to lead you to the end twist more convincingly . I saw Cheryl ( previously Cole but now not using a surname !) and thought she would have fitted well into a local amateur dramatic production but not good enough for the West End . Overall a disappointing evening

3.0 star rating Elizabeth from London, England

SO DISAPPOINTING!!!

So had waited ages to watch this and honestly what a let down!!! Couldn’t hear the Characters properly,it went from screaming to embarrassing silences throughout. Cheryl and Jake were actually quite good, compared to the other 2 actors. The husband sounded like he was reading from a script and the friend was I’m just an irritant. Wasn’t scary at all, just stupid loud music every now and then to create jump scares. Felt like I was at a school play with crap boring twist at the end (They could have played more into that) Shame but well done Cheryl and Jake!

3.0 star rating Annie from London, England

NOT SCARY

Expected to be spooked, at least a bit, but wasn't. Had a good twist at the end though. Couldn't see the point of flash points in the play but it did make everyone pay attention! The character Jenny rather overacted but the others were fine. Good central seats in small theatre, but for entertainment, I have seen better for the money!

2.0 star rating Jenny B from London, England

DISAPPOINTING

Sadly, this play is utterly disappointing. The story line is disjointed and cringe worthy! Imaging being invited to dinner and watching the host couple argue through the visit, this is the key premise of the play. The screaming sound effect, red light and techno music are misplaced and nave not context in relation to the play. The play is over acted and amateurish, there are some funny jokes and remarks but even those are somewhat cringe worthy. We could not bear sitting through the entire play so we left sad and disappointed during the intermission.

2.0 star rating Kerry Gatford from London, England

DISAPPOINTING

I found nothing remotely spooky scary or to be complimented on. I have no desire to rubbish individuals but a lot of shrieking just doesnt make it a good watch. Story line thin and predictable. Glad when it was over. Could be a lot more specific about individuals acting but choose not to.

2.0 star rating Rhonda, London from London, England

SO DISAPPOINTED

I was so excited about seeing this play, but unfortunately found it the to be very disappointing. Amateur performances, over acted, Lilly Allen appeared to shout all her lines, making it uncomfortable to watch the frequent screaming sound effects and lights unnecessary ruining any atmosphere or build up, it was just annoying. The only good performance was from Jake Wood. There was no chemistry between the actors no gelling so characters unbelievable or relatable and very poor story line. Such a shame could have been fantastic.

2.0 star rating James from London, England

FELL A BIT FLAT

Unlikeable characters, with little depth, flung into what felt like a sitcom. Cop-out ending. The script gave no-one the humanity or time to set the stage for fear. Most great ghost stories are grounded in loss, not here, except for your wallet. Allen was the best of the bunch and I think with the right play, she will be awesome.

2.0 star rating Debbie Mather from London, England

DISAPPOINTED

I am very sad to say I found this quite slow and not at all spooky, chilling or entertaining. I really wanted to love it. Maybe just not for me as a see some people have raved about it.

2.0 star rating Carol reid from London, England

DISAPOINTED

I've seen a few ghost stories, but I really struggled to find anything ghostly about this play. The cast were good especially Jake Wood. The random screams just didn't tie in with the story unless they were there for the scare factor but for me it didn't do anything.Sorry but it lacked alot for me, it's a real shame.

2.0 star rating Melanie Martin from London, England

A TOTALLY CRAP ENDING

Billed as a ghost story I'd say it was more attempting at comedy. The ending just cannot have happened for the play to have existed..

I FELL ASLEEP

Lily Allen was great but I’m afraid the play didn’t do it for me. Over-acted, rather slow (hence the nap!) and a bit silly but not in a good way

2.0 star rating Shelley Copping from London, England

SHOUTING OR SILENCE

Not great - was really looking forward to this - A lot of shrieking and then silence- Wooden acting - Left after the interval - Could not see it getting any better .

2.0 star rating Alle Klein from London, England

OH, COME ON...

This would have been an excellent play if it didn't cheapen itself with incredibly irritating and upsetting jump scares and a "twist" that was obvious from the beginning. Listen. the "Shhh, don't tell" sign at the end made me wonder if the production really, honestly thought the twist was surprising? Given they hammered it home with foreshadowning over and over again through the course of the play? I won't spoil it, just in case, but, COME ON. It's an insult to the audience's intelligence to pretend it was meant to be a surprise. That said, the meat of the play, the characters, the performances, the philosophising, was all entertaining. It would have worked if they hadn't thrown in the cheap genre doodads.

2.0 star rating Ghosty McGhostface from London, England

TOO UNREALISTIC FOR ME ON SEVERAL LEVELS

I understand that when viewing a supernatural thriller one must suspend disbelief a bit. But for me this was too much to bear. Moreover, many of the interactions between the characters were forced and unnatural - suddenly they're screaming at and assaulting each other and a minute later they're chummy and light. Finally, sitting next to the speaker was unfortunate and painful (and very much over the top, stylistically) when the intermittent fox shrieks punctuated each scene change. On the positive side, the bones of the story were okay, most of the acting was excellent, a lot of the dialogue was sharp and clever, and the set design was great. Overall, I think this could be an entertaining choice for people who really like ghost stories, but not for those who find supernatural stuff kind of silly.

2.0 star rating GB from London, England

TERRIBLE ENDING

I was disappointed with the whole production to be honest. I can appreciate why some reviewers say they left at the interval. It lacked substance, cliched & predictable ‘comedy’, 2 of the actors wernt great (wooden & bad timing for saying their lines), unnecessarily noisy to create drama that the play itself lacked, and the ending was dire. I was expecting a clever twist, what I got something my 12 year old would dream up.

2.0 star rating Ray and Jenny from London, England

STORY OF TWO HALVES.

Wondered what I was watching at first, felt like a school play production. Lots of woke topics, onpoint messaging, swearing when not required, filler etc. After the interval it got more into the swing of things with the story and characters starting to fill out, building nicely towards the twist at the end. Could be so much better.

2.0 star rating Annie- Louisa from London, England

MEDIOCRE

We felt very out of step with this. The audience laughed at the anodyne jokes and gave a standing ovation. Once you factor out the novelty of seeing 'Cheryl' this really was a mediocre play. It had a 1970's sit com vibe - very weak humour and lots of shouting and swearing. A lot of it felt over-acted and if you are expecting to feel spooked/haunted etc. you'll be disappointed (lots of jump scares though). If you know your ghost stories you'll find the ending unoriginal. It was entertaining in a passable way but I wouldn't recommend.

2.0 star rating Phil from Northampton

SIXTH FORM NOT SIXTH SENSE

Characters shouted their lines like unwilling sixth form participants. No tension, embarassing, jump scares. With a "twist" ending that makes literally no sense. Extra star as i enjoyed my ice cream at the break.

2.0 star rating Alexa from London, England

TAKE EAR PLUGS FOR THE TERRIBLE SHOUTING

Acting was just awful. All they did was shout. Louise the main actress stomped about the stage shouting rambling and it was so hard to understand. Really found it hard to follow. The ending was good, was a good twist and the fact it was over.

1.0 star rating Lesley lake from London, England

BORING

Very, slow, boring story line. Not scary.

1.0 star rating ZK from London, England

JUST AWFUL. I HAVE SEEN BETTER SIXTH FORM PLAYS

If you are familiar with good theatre in London, this is a poor production by comparison. If it wasn’t for Jake Wood’s character performance, which is the best aspect of this play, I would have left at the interval. The writing is immature and splattered with cliche. The canned screams and red flashing lights are a cheap trick to distract you from second rate direction. Lily Allen cannot act and is painful to watch. Other cast members not even worthy of a mention. As for for the plot twist, oh dear. Framing this play with reference The Mousetrap is shameful. This production is more akin to a trap party, with Lily Allen as the bait to lure a crowd that will know no better. Do not waste your evening or money on this play. There are many productions in London more deserving of your patronage.

1.0 star rating Alan James from London, England

ABSOLUTE GARBAGE

Totally disappointed. Apart from some comedy moments from Ben and Sam, the play was a disaster. Performances were lame and Lilly Allen sĂšemed wooden and for most part stiff and forced. It was neither horrifying or terrifying and definitely not entertaining. To be honest, all those in my party found it a struggle to stay awake - if it wasn't for the canned shrieks of foxes we would have dozed off. It's 2.5 hours of my life I won't get back back so save your time and money and do something else.

1.0 star rating Joan Powers from London, England

AWFUL

Dont waste your money. It certainly wasn't spooky, chilling, eerie or entertaining . Apart from a few comedy moments from Ben and Sam the rest was awful. The whole performance seemed amateurish and Lilly Allen cannot act. I've seen bettervpeoductions as my son's high school.

A COP OUT

Went perhaps expecting too much , agree some dialogue difficult to hear - didn’t really matter tho , irrelevant screams , red light , dunno why . Conclusion was cop out. Never got going for me didn’t really care about the characters. Save your money .

2:22 - THE MINUTES I WISH IT LASTED

I am still reeling about the money and time I wasted on this awful show. Do not be fooled by any review that gives it more than one star, it was, by far, the worse production I have ever seen. I tried to think of one positive aspect of the night and I couldn't. Everything about it this play was amateurish. The script was painfully basic and incredibly boring. The actors must have thought the same, since they delivered their lines with alarming speed, that they must have wanted the thing to end as quickly as I did. The acting was wooden and fulfilled every stereotypical behaviour for each character being portrayed. For example, Lilly Allen scratches her neck and rubs her arm to indicate her character is anxious and uncomfortable. There was nothing subtle about her movements or expression. Indeed, the entire cast spoon-fed their characters to the audience, as though we had forgotten the nuances of performance. In truth, it was utter ess-aitch-eye-tee

1.0 star rating Alex from London, England

ONE DIMENSIONAL DRAMA

A bit basic. Felt like a dress rehearsal for a GCSE drama module. Lily Allen seemed like she was doing an impersonation of an actor, way too much pacing around and frantic hand wringing. Julia and Jake were both quite good and offered some texture to their characters . Mostly it felt unimaginative and a bit cheap. Ending is a cop-out.

1.0 star rating Lun from London, England

WORST PLAY THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN

Had no idea that Lilly Allen is in the play, but thinking it might be interesting to watch supernatural scened play. And it was a waste of money for sure. The storyline is way too basic and simply treat audience as fool, feels like just read a very cheap novel..... and the story is not logical at all. Also those extremely annoying sound effects, seriously? that's not even necessary. An extremely disappointed play.

1.0 star rating Kevin from London, England

2.22

Before I went to see this I could not find any poor reviews.somone marketed this well .I fell asleep after 20 minutes woke up to noise and and flashing at the interval I stayed in case there was a point to the story but there isn’t . Cannot really say wether the acting is good just four people talking to each other for what seemed like hours . Waste of money

1.0 star rating Mark jones from Cardiff, Wales

WORST WRITING I'VE EVER SEEN PERFORMED

I was really looking forward to seeing this, being a fan of ghost stories and all things eerie. Within 15 minutes you could tell this play was not going to deliver the chills it was promising. To be fair to the actors, they couldn't really polish the turd that this script is. It really is an am-dram level piece of writing, and that's being generous. The characters are unbelievable and there is no chemistry between the couples, which makes it difficult to actually enjoy the story, as you can't suspend disbelief and get into it. The ending is so badly thought out, I guess Danny just got bored and thought 'that'll do'. It is completely nonsensical. It's borderline insulting when you weigh up the ticket cost vs quality level of this play. The only paranormal thing about this is how it got to the stage in the first place, I feel sorry for the actors having to go through this pain night after night. They must be praying for Feb to come around!

TERRIBLE

Please can I have my money back? Simply awful, badly plotted, over acted tosh

1.0 star rating Emma Tunley from London, England

OVERACTING

Looked good, but wished I'd read the reviews. My sleep was interrupted by a periodical and awful cacophony and lights. Very predictable and overused storyline, overacting (amdram style) and a dinner party that I would have exited at the second page of the script. Very disappointed.

1.0 star rating Sarah Simons from Devon, England

HORRIBLE

A cross between Abigail's Party and The Sixth Senth, this fell way short of the hype it came with. I should have read the audience reviews perhaps. Were it not for the ridiculous sound and light display at the end of each act, I would have slept right through. Thoroughly disappointing.

Great until you get to the end and it is a real stinker - obvious and doesn’t make sense!

MOST DISAPPOINTING!

Saw the play yesterday, August 2022, and, I'm afraid, disliked it on so many levels. I didn't engage with any of the characters. I didn't like any of the cast. I certainly didn't like the language. (Am I really old fashioned in being uncomfortable to have swear words in almost every alternate sentence? OK, know it's, sadly, the modern thing.) And I didn't find the plot in any way absorbing. Sorry to have nothing positive to report!

1.0 star rating P from London, England

OVERACTED, WEAK SCRIPT....BASICALLY AWFUL!

It was by far the worse production I've seen in the west end. Church hall amateur dramatics at best.

1.0 star rating James from London, England

THEMATIC MESS, POOR DIALOGUE

2:22 is a thematic mess. It jumps around from ghost story to comedy to marital drama undermining each theme as it switches. I'd say it is strongest as a comedy as the jokes can be quite good, but are usually followed by a few minutes of the main couple screaming at each other. The dialogue is fairly poor, maybe I have loved a blessed life, but I have never attended a dinner party where the attendees alternate between being at each others throats and playing cheerful drinking games whilst engaging in shallow philosophical debate on gentrification. The acting is fine although not great. The set is decent. There are no scares other than intermittent off stage screams (from foxes having sex hahaha...). To be fair I got the impression that the majority of the audience enjoyed the play but I myself don't recommend 2:22.

SADLY LET DOWN BY THE TERRIBLE ACTING

As a teacher of acting and a script writer, I had high hopes that this West End play would bring with it a strong storyline and top rate acting. sadly I was very disappointed on both counts. The script itself was not bad and could have provided an intriguing and atmospheric experience had it been approached in an intimate and naturalistic manner, instead, unfortunately, it was hammed up and over acted, especially the actress playing the drunk friend. I have never seen so many unmotivated and unnatural moves on a stage before. I felt embarrassed for the profession and thought my students could have done better. I think this play would be a good 6th form, studio play, even though the ending was predictable and unsatisfying.

RUBBISH

Really bad play. And staff at criterian theatre were rude. As i was trying to turn my phone off within seconds of the start. As it turned itself on by mistake. i was lambasted by a female steward dressed as elvira to put my phone off. Which is what i was trying to do. Condescending. Rude staff. And not a great play

NOT SCARY, JUST ANNOYING

I had high hopes for this show after seeing 'Ghost Stories' a few years ago but this was completely disappointing. Most of the actors seemed to shout their lines and it didn't feel very natural (it felt almost like you were watching people run-through a script quickly). The only 'scary' bits were a loud scream which had no relevance as you never found out what was actually causing the scream. The characters were annoying (apart from Matt Willis as Ben who was ok) which made it tiring to watch. The story was uneventful with lots of tangents that didn't go anywhere. All round very disappointing.

SLOW AND EXCEPTIONALLY BORING.

Never really got going for me watching and listening to 4 people talking to one another in an open plan living area and the plot going no where fast with a few lame jokes and a bit of profanity thrown in for good measure đŸ„±đŸ„±đŸ’€đŸ’€đŸ’€đŸ’€ I left in the interval as I was bored senseless, disappointing.

SO DISAPPOINTED

Where do I start? Awful acting, really hamming it up, wooden, unbelievable. Q. How did the drunk friend know where the trash bin was in the kitchen cupboard if she’d never visited before? She went straight to it, opened the drawer and found the bin straight off. Trivial I know but it summed up an amateurish production with a predictable ending. I guessed it early on in the second half. Had upper circle seats so not cheap. A complete waste of money.

OMG THIS IS A REAL MESS

No spoilers here but the play opens with one of the characters painting a door frame. From then on you would be better off watching paint dry. The cast did their best with a poor script and ridiculous story but this one is a real stinker. Pay no attention to the five star reviews- I can’t believe they are genuine. Avoid like the plague!

HAS EVERYONE LOST THE PLOT?

I booked on a recommendation from a friend. I thought the story was flimsy, uninteresting characters, poor set. The 4 main actors were average. Cheryl Cole is good to look at but no Helen Mirren when it comes to treading the boards. Max from eastenders was as bad a cor blimey cockney as Dick van Dyke was in Mary Poppins. This was a very poor play, badly written and staged ultimately cremated by poor acting. In short 🐕 đŸ’©

DEF NOT SIXTH SENSE!

The premise was ok but unlike the 6th sense (which in look back is very plausible) this was a very ordinary performance where I'm wondering "what is the point". At no time in the play could you state that he wasn't actually there ( unlike the 6th sense) so the ending had no point at all except they all left the stage. As a committed theatre goer since seeing Michael Crawford in Phantom in the 80's to today this was the most disappointed I have been after a west end stage production.

DULL, BORING AND OVERRATED

I went to see this and booked front row seats which were a tad blocked but you could see the stage. The first half was so boring I considered leaving. The acting was just shouting. Sophia (90210) wasn’t In it again and apparently has called in sick the majority of shows. The understudy was annoying. Ricky (funny bf) was fantastic. Husband was annoying and the lead lady has been great in other things but constantly shouted. All in all it gave me year 6 school play. The ending for may made no sense and was dull. Others have seen it with a different cast and loved it but I came out and thought I’d wasted my time. The worst thing I’ve seen in west end

SHOCKINGLY AWFUL

I went to see 2:22 a ghost story at the Apollo theatre and was so disappointed by the performance. Awful script and story line. So expensive for such an awful production . How can you charge so much money for such poor quality theatre. I saved up to go to theatre and drove many hours into London for my birthday. I gave it a good 20 mins and then really couldn’t take any more . The manager apologised and offered a refund . When I emailed the producer they refused refund. Careful to read reviews before you book your show here. I won’t be going to Apollo theatre again .Avoid no refunds given !!! Giving theatre a bad name! Shocking experience !!!!

JUST AWFUL

Just seen this production in Brighton. Awful. First half consisted of lots of shouting, garbled, overlapping dialogue. The actors rattled through the script and not sure if they were just bad or embarrassed about the poor writing. The characters swung from highs to lows at an alarming pace and I didn’t buy into any of them. The story didn’t make sense and the lurch from “deep” chats to screaming arguments was jarring. Second half no better and involved one character getting increasingly drunk, more shouty arguments and an appalling, eye rolling “twist”. One of the worst things I’ve seen in 40 years of theatre going.

UNBELIEVABLY AWFUL

Where do I start ? Should have been called 9.99 because that’s the emergency service no i needed to rescue me from this awfully acted dribble . I’ve read people were scared and it made them jump. Actually I jumped twice, once to get to the bar in the interval as I needed a drink and I jumped at the end to get out of the theatre

TOTAL PANTS

I was hoping for a decent jump scare, ghost-tale of a play but this was just a total let down. After all the hype with all the fancy advertising, I was very much looking forward to this, as an after work treat. Well.... How wrong was I!! This was more of a comedy than anything else. There was this one guy actor who I had no patience for. All he did was shout and he was super annoying. This was a play more about him I felt. As for the others, It was still all about them but just a bit more calmer and not as irate. I feel this play was a story about their lives rather than about the ghost itself. If there was a 0 then I would score it that. All people did was laugh throughout. There was no real build up or suspense. And the ending was a total waste of time because it just ended suddenly, leaving me feeling completely dead inside. There was no suspense in the 1st half and still nothing in the 2nd. I should have left in the interval but I was expecting it all to show up in the 2nd half.
