I enjoyed the production. A dystopian, grime production of Macbeth. Yes, the distinct regional accents were noticeable at the start - got you thinking what area was being left out (Bristol and Birmingham )or whether it was a BBC directive for hiring presenters... I was slightly disappointed by the lacklustre intonation by some of the weird sisters. However, Kinnear and Duff were good. I also liked Alana Ramsey, Michael Balogun and Trevor Fox. The dystopian set and clothing didn't bother me (apart from the nylon red trousers - horrible shade of red and looked nasty to wear) Also, Malcolm, please, please, put the carrier bag down (at the end) before your speech - it looks like you've just been to Sainsbury's. Go and see the production for the actors' performances which will only get better

NOT UP TO SPEED YET
Interesting staging - I didn't hate the dystopian plastic and baby dolls as much as most of my neighbours, although none of us were sure what to make of a Royal Court apparently set in a shanty town. I am usually a great fan of Rory Kinnear (and partly booked because he was cast as Macbeth) but he was certainly having a bad night on Saturday 4th in terms of fluffed lines. More worryingly some of them were pronounced in ways which suggested he didn't understand their meaning. Second half much stronger than the first but, certainly in preview, this productions feels still 'in development'.

This was one of the worst Shakespeare productions I’ve ever seen. I left at half time with a fair chunk of the audience. Terrible direction, mumbling speeches, ridiculous set, (a junk heap decorated with tatted black bin bags, regional accents which came and went, ( isn’t it called the Scottish play?) witches who gibber - what’s wrong with Shakespeare’s lines?, pointless gender-swapping (it adds nothing to make Fleance into a princess, or to have female thanes) ... and to top it all a Macbeth who said his lines as if he didn’t have the faintest idea what they meant or how they should scan. Lady Macbeth can act, but she was the only one apart from Banquo and Dunstan.

PITIFUL PRODUCTION OF MACBETH
The ignorance of this appalling production was epitomised by a cut in Act 1 Scene 2. "Dismayed not this our captains, Macbeth and Banquo" asks Duncan of a soldier fresh from battle. "Yes" replies the soldier "as sparrows eagles or the hare the lion." (i.e. not in the slightest.) The second half of this quote about the sparrows and the hare was cut - the soldier just said Yes - which gave exactly the opposite of what Shakespeare wrote. The whole thing is quite dreadful.

WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY
This product of Macbeth is a neo fantastical 'steampunk' version which only serves to massacre Shakespeare's beautufiul work. Lines mumbled, acting wooden and more disturbingly seems to omit parts of his original text. Like the writer before, dont bother..I found the recent film, viewed from the comfort of my armchair, significantly more entertaining.

I spent a lot of time wondering where we were supposed to be: a black space dominated by a rickety black railway bridge adorned with what looked like tall black mops, against backdrop of shattered black bin-liners. (I was too far from the stage to be able to see the broken dolls other people have mentioned.) The characters live in small, grim box-like structures resembling waiting rooms at a provincial railway station. Does Macbeth really want to rule over this dismal waste land? Whatever for? Or does he kill Duncan merely so he can nick his red trousers?

I echo every word that your first reviewer (Abdul Bhat) wrote. Only I had the misfortune of seeing the second half, when things didn't improve.
