CALENDAR GIRLS

Brilliant! - funny, moving, a real treat. Made me proud to be a woman. Everyone leaving the theatre had a smile and all werel enthusing. The photography scene was really clever and very funny. The final scene with the sunflowers was very moving. I can't praise the show enough.

FANTASTIC

Saw this show yesterday and it was utterly brilliant! Came out on a high knowing that this is hased on a true story. How the cast portrayed such heartwrenching emotions as well as laughter was fantastic. All are cast in the right roles and you really get the feeling that they thoroughly enjoyed performing this show. See it and be uplifted and entertained and proud to be a woman.

INSPIRATIONAL

My Mum Molly and I (two Yorkshire lasses living in Australia) saw the show in May on a recent trip to the UK. The girls' Yorkshire accents were brilliantly recreated, totally believable, and their outstanding acting performances sensitively brought the ladies to life on the stage. The stage show enhances the already brilliant legacy that the film has created. A fantastic show which leaves one feeling truly inspired, uplifted and entertained. The show has everything - laughter, tears and a feel good factor. I'm ready to plant sunflowers in my new garden bed! A must see on any visit to London. Congratulations girls - please bring the show to Australia!

EXCELLENT SHOW ....BUT

I came to see Calender Girls on 15th August 09 and had an excellent seat, Circle A22, I really enjoyed the show but the only disappointment was that I could not hear June Brown very clearly, she frequently turned away from the audience making it difficult to pick up what she was saying, I hasten to add that I am not hard of hearing

SLIGHT CRITICISM

I went to see Calendar Girls on 11th September and when it started I felt the dialogue was being 'shouted' too much by Anita Dobson. Some of us do wear hearing aids and the words were not clear - I missed some but so did my neighbour who has perfect hearing! Would it be possible for them to wear individual mikes then they wouldn't have to 'shout' as it made it unreal. Once I got over the initial shock, I enjoyed the show and was definitely moved by it but it could have been more pleasureable. June Dobson was a hoot but all played their parts in bringing the story to life. On discussion back at the hotel some others also felt the same so I agreed to e-mail you.

ENJOYABLE

Watched the show with a packed house on Saturday night from the stalls, very good atmosphere in the theatre. Show is very enjoyable, June Brown is very difficult to hear should stick to the one liners, which she delivers well. Disappointed with the lack of Gemma Atkinson, show poster is misleading. Most other cast performed well (especially J.Hall) except Anita Dobson - voice too harsh to play a Yorkshire lass, not very believable. Would recommend it, a little tinkering with the cast will give the show a good chance of a long run.

PLAY V FILM

I saw the show a week ago and watched the film again last night. I enjoyed them both and thought with the limitations of a stage set and a smaller cast, the show was a good representation of the film. The best thing I can say about June Brown was that I never once saw Dot Cotton and I mean that as a compliment. Jerry Hall was good in a role that had to be re-written for her as an American. I thought Sara Crowe played her role the best. I suspect that some of the negative reviewers had gone for the wrong reasons, i.e. to see "Dot" or ogle at Gemma. All in all, a good 2 hours entertainment and good value. I have spent more on a football match without being entertained as much.

DONT GO THERE TO SEE GEMMA ATKINSON

My wife persuaded me to go to see Calendar Girls and sold it to me on the basis that Gemma Atkinson was in the show. It is correct that Gemma is in the show, but only for about 5 minutes and is fully dressed. The show poster depicts Gemma as a main character, this couldn't br further from the truth. So gents, if its young totty you want then im sorry but you will have to settle for June Brown!

SPOILT BY

Anita Dobson's awful accent and not much better acting. I was half expecting Dirty Den to appear. She's far too embroiled in soap acting to pull off this type of character. There are some genuinely funny moments however. June Brown's acerbic one liners stand out although I did wish she'd have faced the stage to allow us to hear more clearly. Jill Halfpenny was excellent, whilst Jerry Hall was far from the disaster I expected her to be. Overall a decentish night out with most of the actors making the best of a formulaic script.

WILL SOMEONE TELL ANITA DOBSON TO STOP SHOUTING!!

I went to see the show on 3rd October 2009. I thought all the cast were excellent, particularly June Brown and Sara Crowe. However, it was almost ruined for me by Anita Dobson, who shouted all her lines! I found myself feeling quite relieved when she went off stage and then tensing up again when she came back on wondering if she would manage to deliver her next line without shouting! She really is terrible and needs replacing or told NOT to shout - is it that difficult?

To me this play was completely ruined by Anita Dobson. She was not right for the part at all. She managed to shout her way through the entire play, which was a shame because the rest of the cast were fantastic. I was very disappointed and cannot believe how she could have been cast in the main role when she was so terrible.

GIVE IT A MISS

This is the worst show I have seen. We couldn't hear most of the lines, Kelly Brook just doesn't do her part justice. I remember the film being very funny, but the theatre show was just dull.
