PETER PAN - NOT RECOMMNENDED
I was not expecting a traditional Panto but was awaiting some humour or wit, but not even a pun! Who wrote the dreadful script? I could have written better (oh no you couldn't, oh yes I could). Mr Darling's medicine could have been whisky, there could have been a cat with nine tails, Captain Hook could have been told to sling his, etc. There were two reactions between Hook and audience members when Hook spat out water and when he spoke to a child in the front row. Not good enough. There should have been more inter- reaction. The audience were reluctant to shout out that they believed in fairies. The costumes were pretty bad too. Jumble sale clothes for the cast in general and wellington boots for Hook: hardly swashbuckling and piratical. In a small theatre you have a great opportunity for intimacy. Peter was at least athletic but the best thing about this Panto was Alexander Vlahos being a hunk. I think him ill advised to have taken this role in such a poor production though.
