Why See The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude / Tarantella / Strapless / New Liam Scarlett?

Dance & Ballet

An exciting mixed programme by the Royal Ballet, this selection of four virtuoso dance pieces also features a brand-new work by resident artist Liam Scarlett. With Christopher Wheeldon, George Balanchine and William Forsythe's work also on the programme, this is a true exploration of the skill displayed by the top dancers at Royal Ballet, whilst engaging in different styles. The evening includes Wheeldon's Strapless, Balanchine's electrifying Tarantella and Forsythe's Vertiginous Thrill.

As yet un-named, resident artist Liam Scarlett's newest one-act work for the Ballet is highly anticipated. His previous works include 2016's Frankenstein and Viscera, last performed in 2015. Christopher Wheeldon's 2016 work Strapless centres around a ballerina and explores themes of passion and hypocrisy, and has garnered positive critical reception. Balanchine celebrates the power of a pas de deux in his 1954 piece originally performed by the New York City Ballet and is celebrated for its complicated dance steps and lively attitude. Finally, Vertiginous Thrill by Forsythe is danced to Schubert's "Great" Symphony, and pushes the five dancers to the limit of their musicality and skill.
