Why See Promises, Promises?
Returning to London after nearly 50 years
Following a recent spate of Burt Bacharach shows lighting up the West End this year, the legendary composer's classic musical Promises, Promises finally makes a welcome return to London for the first time since 1969. Based on Billy Wilder's 1960 movie The Apartment starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley McClaine, the musical adaptation features a Grammy Award-winning score, with the showstopping "I'll Never Fall in Love Again" later being recorded by soul star Dionne Warwick.
In recent years, the musical made a revival on Broadway in 2011 starring Sean Hayes and Kristin Chenoweth as the aspiring executive who leases out his apartment for his bosses' clandestine trysts, and the struggling waitress, respectively. The creative team was a perfect cocktail with a charming book by Neil Simon and a splashy score by Academy Award-winning team Bacharach and Hal David.
