With an idea he founded a movement. With a movement, he started a nation. With a nation, he changed history.
The early life of activist Gandhi is explored in this conceptual opera from 21st-century icon Philip Glass. Replete with his signature minimalist themes and melodies, Satyagraha is different from your usual opera, with a striking soundscape that grips you until the very end. Visually, the production excels with direction from Phelim McDermott whose visionary eye completes this exceptional theatrical experience.
Part of Glass's 'Portrait Trilogy', a project that draws on the lives of inspiring innovators, this 1979 masterpiece takes us back to Gandhi's time in South Africa where he began to form the basis of his non-violent resistance, a practice that would not only go on to change the course of his life, but impact the entire world.
