Kitty McCarron
This is an incredibly moving show with a strong ensemble playing multiple parts. Not as mawkish as its filmic cousin (that debuted the same year incidentally) the production is a carefully layered look at the real people who would have been aboard this ship, from the fancy toffs in first class, the Irish in third class, to the 14 year old cabin boy who stays with his charges to the last.
Whatever their social standing, they are all full of hope as they board 'The Ship of Dreams' in search of a new life in America. With rousing songs, clever set design and a great job from all the actors, this diminutive production feels much bigger, packing the emotional punch that would happily fill a bigger house. We can only hope it will set sail for the West End very soon!
