Why See Afraid Of The Dark?

ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK?

In this foray into the most basic of human fears, that of the unknown and unseen terror that lurks in the dark, a sense of foreboding and anticipation fills every inch of Charing Cross Theatre as the rumbling of nearby trains add to the suspense. The very origins of the play are mysterious, as the author has chosen to remain anonymous.

Director Ian Talbot oversees this beautifully staged and technically slick production, complimented by a spine-chilling soundtrack that punctuates crucial moments of tension and release. Not for the faint of heart, the audience is plunged into darkness frequently and the action is not just confined to the stage - prepare to be unnerved!

WHAT IS AFRAID OF THE DARK ABOUT?

Set in the Golden Age of Film, 50's era Hollywood, a struggling film studio accustomed to churning out popular B-grade Horror movies (see The Beast with 1,000,000 Eyes) must find the perfect script to turn their fortunes around. Charming producer Roger, gangly writer Herschel and bodacious accounts girl Sandra are charged with the task of not only finding the perfect script, but making sure that it costs a fraction of the price of their previous blockbusters.

Cue the entrance of the enigmatic Dr. Chevalier, once known as the 'Master of Terror' of Vaudeville until the movies put him out of work. Part saviour and part nemesis, the doctor sets off a cascade of horror stories and vaudeville magic that sees the team face their darkest fears.
