Jon Conway, playwright
Jon Conway stars in and directs his self-penned play that takes aim at the establishment, the press and the legal system. A production that promises to reveal "sensational new information about the death of Princess Diana", this "factional" play also examines how the search for truth leads to personal upheaval in the life of an investigator, based on Conway's own real-life experiences. This play is set to ruffle feathers in the political and security services establishment.
Ray, a playwright, starts his own investigation to uncover secrets about Princess Diana and her untimely death, that he feels that the establishment have tried to keep hidden. As he delves deeper into the legal rabbit hole, his personal life starts to suffer as a consequence and his resulting paranoia and leads him to suspect that his beloved wife is being unfaithful to him. Was Diana murdered by the establishment - or victim of a tragic accident?
Using Conway's meticulous forensic research, revelations from previously unheard sources and access to police witness statements and court transcripts, the production makes full use of the actual words spoken by a cast of characters that include James Hewitt, ex-editor Piers Morgan, Paul Burrell, Mohammed Al Fayed, security service personnel, witnesses of the Paris crash, and the Royal Family. Though Diana is not portrayed in person in the play as respect, her words are spoken as reported on record at the time.
The play premiered off-Broadway in 2013, due to Conway's worries about the reception in the UK. Now it is set to transfer to Charing Cross Theatre.
