Anthony Weigh's comic reworking of Le Voyageur Sans Bagage
The Donmar season opens with a new reworking of Jean Anouilh's 1937 comedy Le Voyageur Sans Bagage by Anthony Weigh. A comic tale of lost identity, the action is moved forward to the blazing hot summer of 1959 when a soldier who was presumed dead during World War II turns up out of the blue in the Hamptons. However, with various families trying to claim him as their own, is this man really who he claims to be?
A touching, yet hilarious play, watch as this supposedly amnesiac soldier reunites with his long-lost family whilst trying to work out his identity. But as his memory returns, he becomes aware of the man he was before he went to war, and does not like the cruelty that he inflicted on others in his pursuit of personal gain. Which family will he choose to remain with? Starring Fenella Woolgar, Trevor Laird and Francesca Annis.
