"Andrew Scott is hypnotic in disturbing tale of eccentricity."
The Guardian
Fresh from SPECTRE duties, the anarchic Andrew Scott stars in Tony Award winner Richard Greenberg's 2000 Outer Critics Circle Award-winning play, staged in the old Central Saint Martins building in the West End.
Joined by Ripper Street's David Dawson, the story follows the eccentric lives of two brothers, Homer and Langley Collyer in early 20th century New York, as they are faced with the arrival of a beautiful woman, bored socialite Millie (Joanna Vanderham). Based on the strange story of the real life Collyer brothers who died in 1947 buried underneath their accumulated hoardings, it took workmen weeks to locate their bodies.
Surrounded by 130 tonnes of hoarded rubbish, aristocratic Millie is determined to defy her parents to marry one of the eccentric brothers. Her sudden appearance in their run-down apartment serves to throw everybody's lives into stark contrast. Homer, a deceptive lawyer recognises the chance for them to better themselves by organising a marriage between the woman Millie, and his flirtatious kin, Langley. However, the marriage never pulls off, and Langley becomes depressed, scavenging more and more junk for their cramped living space, until the inevitable happens.
