A Shakespeare purist's nightmare!

Why See Sh*t-Faced Shakespeare?

Comedy Theatre

Shakespeare performed as he (probably) would've wanted it

With the plethora of high-brow Shakespearean plays that make up a huge number of London shows, it is often easy to forget that they were originally performed in a bawdy, interactive atmosphere. This is where Sh*t-faced Shakespeare come in. The toast of the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe, this outrageous show by Magnificent Bastard Productions sees the company perform with one cast member completely drunk, chosen at random each performance. Think you know Shakespeare? You've seen nothing yet.

Don't get us wrong - each Shakespeare play is performed entirely seriously - but the addition of the drunken cast member adds a new dimension of carnage and hilarity that wouldn't be out of place in the 1600s. The end result? Shakespeare becoming more accessible to newcomers and younger audiences.
