20 years after his passing, the West End unites to pay tribute in a special concert
The composer of the groundbreaking musical RENT tragically never saw his creation play live on Broadway; the night before the first preview, he died suddenly from heart trouble. The musical that went on to win two Tony Awards, a Pulitzer Prize and played all over the world was noted for its controversial content, as well as making a star of Idina Menzel. This special tribute concert pays homage to a talent taken away too soon and celebrates his work on RENT, as well as his semi-autobiographical tick, tick… BOOM! and Superbia.
Theatre veteran Hannah Chissick will direct a host of West End stars (yet to be announced) to perform his best-loved show tunes from his three musicals, paying homage to a prodigious talent that never got to enjoy the spoils of success, nor see the huge impact his work had on theatre or its future generations of stars.
