When Death comes, who will stand by your side?
Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave) The National presents a new adaptation of Everyman. A historically rich journey of the search for salvation, Everyman's playwright is an unknown source who penned the play during the Tudor era, heralding numerous adaptations throughout the centuries, with multiple produtions still being launched the world over.
A deeply alleogorical play, it is the story of the Everyman and his search for a friend when Death comes to make him answer for the sins and successes of life. Is it only in Death that life can be undersood? The resounding popularity of Everyman comes from these highly moralistic questions and our own reactions when faced with them once and for all.
With new text from poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy and choreogrpahy from Javier De Frutos, this promises to be compelling and literate show, a must see for those interested in the philosophy of faith and the self.
