"What a turn up! Lindsay Lohan silences the doubters with a deft performance.2
The Independent
David Mamet's satirical dissection of the Hollywood movie business is helmed by award-winning director Lindsay Posner, who has previously worked with stars Matthew Perry and Juliette Lewis. Mamet has further explored the subject in two films, Wag the Dog (1997) and State and Main (2000).
Lindsay Lohan plays a Karen, a seemingly sweet and innocent secretary to a Hollywood producer, Bob Gould (Richard Schiff). When he seduces her to win a bet with his co-producer Charlie Fox (Nigel Lindsay), the film adaption of a book they are working on is threatened when Gould gives her free reign to choose a different book to read. When she insists on the new book being made into the movie, the besotted Gould tries to cut Fox out and go it alone with the new novel adaption.
Karen's true motives for allowing Gould to are revealed at a critical showdown between the three, when she admits that her sweet and innocent persona was a ploy to get the book she wanted made into the film. Gould is stunned at the news and orders her off the studio lot - but has the damage already been done to his and Fox's partnership?
