A brand new collaboration by the award-winning writers of Rocky The Musical and Ragtime
Cynthia Erivo (I Can't Sing) and Cassidy Janson (Avenue Q, Wicked, Candide) star in the European premiere of this touching musical drama. Based on the novel by Sherley Anne William, we follow the journey of a young slave (Erivo) who suffers a barrage of hardships because of the colour of her skin. Ruth (Janson), a young white mother, faces a different discrimination - for her gender. Fate brings these two kindred spirits together where they learn the value of true friendship amidst impossible odds.
This new musical drama is the latest collaborations between Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, whose other award-winning work include Ragtime, Once On This Island, Seussical and Rocky The Musical.
Opening night: 29 July 2014
