From dead parrots to Mr Gumby this will be a python fest to end them all.
A Python reunion never seemed too likely. All five surviving members (sixth Python Graham Chapman died in 1989) seemed content to pursue their very successful solo ventures, be it Gilliam's movie directing or Palin's globe-trotting. Then suddenly, after months of "secret talks", a press conference was held late last year and a super-duper reunion show was announced. Originally intended to be a one off event, Live Mostly sold out so quickly that a further nine dates have now been added at the O2 Arena. According to the group, the show will be a mixture of greatest hits, sketches making their live performance debut and, most tantalisingly of all, new material.
Monty Python are, without doubt, the greatest comedy troupe of all time. Their unique brand of slapstick, surrealism and satire was ground-breaking in its day and still continues to cast a huge influence over the modern comedy world. Alongside their tv show Monty Python's Flying Circus, they also produced four feature length movies, the most famous of which, 1979's Life of Brian, sparked huge controversy with the catholic church on its release. The last time that all five remaining Pythons performed together live was in 1980 at the Hollywood Bowl.
Opening night: 1 July 2014
Doors open at 18.00
