Best is a supreme mistress at working the Globe space with her gift for being at once playful and commanding and her witty, wonderfully unforced audience rapport.

Why See Antony And Cleopatra?

Eve Best captures Cleopatra beautifully

Eve Best stars opposite Clive Wood in Shakespeare's exquisite exploration of how the forces of sex and power combust in the politics of the ancient world's mightiest Empires - Rome and Egypt. Directed by Jonathan Mumby and starring Phil Daniels as Enobarbus, this production by Shakespeare's Globe is a grand testament to the poetry and passion of one of Shakespeare's greatest works.

Eve Best has been praised by critics for her portrayal of the iconic, doomed Egyptian queen. "Bewitching" (The Independent) with "piercing glimpses of vulnerability" (The Times), it certainly is another excellent role to add to her growing resume, which includes her performances as Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing (2011) and the lead in Hedda Gabler (2005).

What is Antony And Cleopatra about?

The great Mark Anthony, soldier of the Roman Empire, is bewitched by Cleopatra, the intoxicating Queen of Egypt. His obsession with this alluring and beguiling woman brings him into conflict with his fellow leaders of the Roman Empire, forcing him to choose between Rome - or his Pharaoh's lover. One of Shakespeare's greatest works with a strong, central female lead character, Antony And Cleopatra examines how two powerful and headstrong lovers are torn apart by war, politics and ultimately, their own passion.
