CONSIDER YOURSELF ENTERTAINED!
Saw Oliver with Rowan Atkinson as Fagin and didn't think his slimy, avaricious performance could be bettered. Took the family to see it before it leaves Drury Lane, Griff Rhys Jones now playing the part of Fagin. He was just as good in a different way - really funny with a lovely interaction with the kids. The sets were absolutely brilliant, Fagin, Oliver, Artful, Nancy and Bill were fantastic, in fact the entire cast acted and sang and danced their socks off! Our two boys were agog the entire way through, my youngest (age 6) has asked me to print out the words to Consider Yourself...I think he sees himself as a future Artful Dodger! Also took grandparents and they loved it too, definitely a show for the entire family. Our seats were great (back row of the Grand Circle - last time the bridge Nancy falls on was too high and we couldn't see but was lower this time, thank you). My favourite show - fare thee well but BE BACK SOON :-)

FANTASTIC PRODUCTION
I have been to see this three times. Absolutely loved it. I am so sad it is closing. It is an all time classic and should have gone on for 25 years or more.

SONIA SWABY
Having not seen the complete show , but having seen Sonia Swaby sing As long as he needs me , if that was the standard of the show , then what a great show this must have been! She was a great Nancy!

ALMOST OUTSTANDING!
There are a couple of small elements missing from this extravagant spectacle that once addressed will elevate the show into the stratosphere. Here we have a portrayal of London that is magnificent - the set is a tour de force, as is the wonderful choreography and consequently the big full cast song and dance numbers. I saw Gwion as Oliver - maybe a little well scrubbed for an urchin - who was assured and engaging. The pace dropped a little in Fagin's den - maybe the stage is just too busy for us to take in the nuances. But my main gripe is the character of Bill Sykes. This is well portrayed by Burn Gorman but it lacks any redeeming character trait. Without being able to appreciate why Nancy would stick by him the poignancy of what happens is a wasted opportunity given what the set can do. The expected tension of the final rooftop chase is completely lost. Two gunshots and the deed is done - but this should be the point of high drama. Oliver never seems to be in danger.
