The Tony and Grammy-Award-winning musical Hadestown has released a first-look trailer for its West End run. A legendary tale of love to the underworld and back, the critically acclaimed show returns to the UK after five years and features music, lyrics, and a book by Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Anas Mitchell, with direction by Tony Award winner Rachel Chavkin.
Anas Mitchell's Hadestown combines two myths: the tale of Hades and Persephone, and the ancient Greek tale of Orpheus and Eurydice. Set in a post-apocalyptic Depression-era America, the story follows Eurydice and the gifted musician Orpheus as they travel to Hadestown, a city under the control of the underworld's ruler, Hades. When Eurydice is drawn into Hadestown's false promise of prosperity and security, Orpheus sets out on a mission into the underworld to save her.
Melanie La Barrie from & Juliet steps into the shoes of Hermes, alongside Gloria Onitiri from Cinderella as Persephone and Zachary James from Philip Glass's Akhnaten as Hades.
Dnal Finn, known for The Wheel of Time, takes on the role of Orpheus, opposite Grace Hodgett Young playing Eurydice. Madeline Charlemagne, Allie Daniel, and Bella Brown portray the three Fates in the production.
