Good but could had been better
I enjoyed parts of Hercules, but it was a mixed experience. Hercules and Meg were solid, though Meg’s voice felt forced and cringey, like she was trying too hard to mimic the film. The Muses were the highlight — astronomical voices, powerful and flawless. Costumes and hair were the best I’ve ever seen on stage, absolutely stunning. On the flip side, Hades was the most disappointing: he shouted everything at the same tone and speed, with no pauses or comedic timing, making him grating and hard to understand. I dreaded his scenes, which is a shame as the script had witty potential. Phil didn’t have horns or hooves, which felt odd since he’s meant to be half goat. The first monster was hilarious- more like a giant rat-wolf from behind a London bin than Greek mythology. The Hercules running scene was also a bit cringey. Overall, the show looked incredible and the Muses were outstanding, but poor direction of key characters, especially Hades, really held it back.
