A delight
From the very beginning this brilliant play had the audience in its grip. Funny at times, but with the aid of a clever scenery change the play, with the help of very good actors, flows along.
AVOID ...
This is such a disappointment. I realise it must be difficult to write such a boring character as Matthew Broderick plays but this that should be left in the drawer. Elizabeth McGovern whines and it is difficult to hear her in the Circle. If it hadn't been for Jim Norton I would have left - as many around me did ... DO NOT waste your money.
So Disappointing
In fairness, we attended the second night of previews so the performance was far from crisp. That said, the missed cues, trouble with lines, etc. were not the biggest problem that night. The play plods along without a hint of authenticity from the two stars. The nurse and old man were the only genuine characters presented and offered the only relief from what was otherwise a terribly boring evening of theater. For me, nothing rang true and the characters were simply not real, believable or sympathetic..
