CLEVER PLOT WITH A TWIST.

Saw this play yesterday. The cast were great. The Felix Scott character, Sam, was played by Nigel Allen who was standing in for the absent Felix and was brilliant. The story line is intriguing and you are kept on the edge of your seat from the start. Interspersed with bits of comedy the story flows between pleasant bickering and banter to full on arguments which all build up nicely to the twist at the end. Entertaining? - yes. Intriguing? - yes. Stylish? - yes. Would I recommend it? - most certainly. The best Sunday afternoon I have spend in a long time.

GRIPPING

Just on my way home from seeing this at the Lyric. So exciting, with very true characters. There wasn't a moment to think about anything else, completely engrossing.

A MUST SEE....

Booked a day before show with great seats and reduced price. Well worth the watch with lots of dramatic sound and lighting. "Max Branning".... Jake Wood was fab and a laugh a minute with his witty ways. Cheryl was good also and played the role well. Its definitely worth seeing . maybe even twice!!!

SATISFYINGLY SPOOKY GHOST STORY

Something spooky is happening in Jenny's house at precisely 2:22 am. She can hear footsteps in the baby's room, but when she goes in to check, no one is there. Husband Sam is sceptical. He's a scientist after all, a lecturer who dismisses her fears with rational explanations. Their dinner party guests are persuaded to stay until 2:22 to see if the ghost appears. This is a wordy and intelligent play about science and class and belief and faith and relationships all set against the frenetic backdrop of a really satisfyingly spooky ghost story. The denouement when it comes is surprising and clever and makes you want to watch it again to spot the clues. The theatre is super crowded with no attempt at social distancing (the interval is a scrum, especially in the stalls) as an fyi for those attending. We were thoroughly entertained.

THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE

Went to see this with my daughter who is a major Tom Felton fan. That aside, this a a really good play. The set was incredible, if it hadn't been for the stage floor, I could have easily been fooled into thinking it was a real house. Not as spooky as I'd have liked, so don't worry if you're not a fan of the "ghost" genre, it's more about relationships between different people, the dynamics and emotions. With a hefty bit of comedy thrown in. No need to write a synopsis, enough people have done that already, suffice to say its very good and definitely worth a watch.

SUBTLE HINTS TO THE ENDING

I think the people who gave the play poor ratings missed the subtle clues to the ending. Without giving it away think of the bit about paying for the drinks. There were many more hints but I didn’t pick up on them until after the show. My only criticism was that the microphones needed to be turned up a bit. I felt I missed some of the dialogue-especially the female characters. When you go to the cinema the volume can be too loud but you can hear every word. it’s more important in the theatre as much more is left to your imagination ie in this case the baby in the bedroom and the newly fitted bathroom. However, I was really entertained by the play and overall loved it.
