The Tempest Reviews

STORMY WEATHER
Early days but some of the main characters need to find their stage legs. I wasn't convinced by Prospero there is so much in this character but this was a naration of the text, Miranda came across as an upper west-side deb not a young woman stranded on an island with no outside contact. Arial was another missed opportunity. Lose the panto flying rig drop the dergy song and allow the actor to act, they are clearly talented. The other acting was great and embarrassing so for those that were out of their depth on stage. I wondered why Prospro was sitting on a stool centre stage? The other actors made use of the set sat on the depressing hillocks. Is there an injury or is the insurance to expensive? It was weired. I feel for the actors the set is so depressing - is it a nod to a desolate place in space, a lost mining ship? Anyway it didn't chime with some of the lovely verses in the play referencing the nature of the island. Has great potential to improve over the run.

POOR PRODUCTION
Worst Tempest I have seen. Very disappointing. Verse speaking is monotonous and often meaningless. Production is stodgy and cut in a way that makes much of it incomprehensible, even when you know the plot! Weaver is anonymous sadly. A real disappointment.
