BRAVO - BRITISH THEATRE AT ITS BEST

You could take grand mother and grand child to this as all generations could identify with the compelling central character of the peculiarly English poet Stevie Smith. Loving her work I had been sceptical as to how the play would incorporate her biography and her poems and was delighted by the effortless ease with which Zoe Wanemaker moved between the two generating her own sly rhythms with a ferocious pleasure. I was pleased with my comfortable seats and leg room in the intimate almost in the round configuration for this production. Across the aisle was Michael Frayn who looked equally engaged and moved by the wonderful performances of a succinctly written play. For me, this is one of the evenings when all elements are in perfect unison - set, text, acting - and the thought, work and attention to detail all come together to create an evening that makes you laugh, cry and think. What more can you ask for? Bravo and thank you to all involved.
