The story itself is one of infighting, frustration, romance, and rock'n'roll excess (all the things you'd expect from a disagreeing 70's band). David Adjmi notes he drew inspiration from iconic band Fleetwood Mac and came up with the idea while listening to Led Zeppelin and pondering "What would it have been like to be in the studio when this was being recorded?".

Get Down Tonight tells the story of founding member Harry Wayne Casey's early life and the journey which led to the formation of a band that would sell over 100 million records around the world. With book by J.F. Lawton and music by Casey, the musical features all the hits including "That's The Way (I Like It)", "Give It Up" and, of course, "Get Down Tonight".
