It's A Jolly Holiday With Mary!

See what the critics thought of Mary Poppins at the Prince Edward Theatre

Disney's latest musical extravaganza has landed! Starring Zizi Strallen as our titular nanny and Charlie Stemp as Bert, Mary Poppins has all the right ingredients to be a spectacular production, but, what did the critics think?

In short... they loved it! The Telegraph was full of praise for the Richard Eyre and Matthew Bourne helmed production dubbing it "the medicinal sugar-rush we all desperately need". They continued their five-star review by called Mary Poppins a "pleasure of a musical".

The Guardian mirrored these sentiments dubbing it a "stageful of sugar is a rapturous delight" before continuing with praise for the star of the show Zizi Strallen, saying, "Zizi Strallen is excellent as the buoyant nanny in Eyre's chippy and enduring show..."

The Daily Mail continued the praise with "Zizi Strallen is so brilliant as Ms Poppins that a spoonful of superlatives won't quite cover it". They continued with "the other outstanding part of Sir Richard Eyre's still slick production is the mesmerising choreography by Stephen Mear and Matthew Bourne... Their magic seems to extend beyond the big routines into the tiniest ticks and mannerisms of the actors, as though they were being operated by some supernatural force."

What is Mary Poppins about?

Jane and Michael Banks have chased away all their previous nanny's, much to the despair of their parents, George and Winifred. When the children's letter explaining what they want in a nanny is ripped up and thrown on the fire by their father, their hopes of finding a kind nanny is lost. That is however until the wind changes and the mysterious Mary Poppins turns up at the door along with adventure and magic. To George's exasperation, Mary Poppins becomes a beloved member of the family, teaching the Bank's a lot more than they think...

Mary Poppins is now playing at the Prince Edward Theatre.
