Dazzling, vibrant performances that were about as good as you can get- stunning opening tenor voice singing 'Only Make Believe' and then matched in standard by equally fab soprano. The other main voices were also brilliant, as were the supporting chorus. They made the very best of 'Can't Help Lovin Dat Man' and Paul Robeson would probably have been delighted with the young guy's fine, firm interpretation of 'Ole Man River.' The dance sequences were exciting and thrilling and it was just a shame that they didn't play the overture. It's coming off soon; one suggestion is that Showboat doesn't get enough cover, perhaps this company could soon revive and tour with it. Back in the 1930's Kearne and Hammerstein were cutting totally new ground, surely setting the stage for the other 'biggies' that we know and love today.
