Why See Roots?
A magnificent classic
Arnold Wesker's groundbreaking play, Roots, is getting a modern makeover by Director Diyan Zora (known for Tom Fool and Klippies). Since as far back as 1959, Roots has received critical acclaim for its epic realism and accurate portrayal of working-class life. It changed the landscape of British theatre forever. Now, rather than being set in 1950s England, Roots is being reimagined for 2024, offering a poetic and heartfelt peek into one young woman's journey to self-discovery!
The Story Of Roots
Filled with political passion after living in London, Beattie Bryant returns to her countryside home in Norfolk. However, her time in the big smoke has changed her perspective. As her family nervously awaits the arrival of her activist boyfriend Ronnie, Beattie struggles to readjust to her former lifestyle. Her unconventional beliefs begin to clash with the traditional values of her family, tensions escalate, and soon Beatie is forced to confront a crucial question - will she remain loyal to her roots?
