Josephine
Theatre Devotee & Night-Owl Wordsmith
Raised on late-night RSC broadcasts and fringe-festival buzz, I've spent four decades teasing out Shakespeare's subtext and cheering wildly for bold new writing. After lecturing in English lit, I traded lecture halls for lobbies, reviewing shows everywhere from the National to neon-soaked black-box spaces. My guiding rule? If a performance sparks debate over a flat white at 2 a.m., it's worth shouting about.
My hobbies & interests
Cycling the Regent's Canal at dawn, restoring vintage typewriters, experimenting with artisan coffee roasts.
My favourite ever stage show
Ivo van Hove's A View from the Bridge (Young Vic, 2014) – stripped-back intensity that pinned me to my seat.
My favourite ever concert
Patti Smith at the Roundhouse, 2007 – pure, electrifying poetry.
My watchlist
Hadestown's return run, Jamie Lloyd's Sunset Boulevard, and any pop-up immersive that dares rewrite the rules.
