Did Chicago live up to the Razzle Dazzle?

Did Chicago live up to the Razzle Dazzle?

The reviews are in!

Chicago has returned to London, after six long years away from the West End the musical's return, with Hollywood star Cuba Gooding Jr at the helm has been greatly anticipated. But, did it live up to the hype?

In a bag of, what can only be described as mixed reviews, Chicago seemed to wow some but not everyone when it opened at the Phoenix Theatre last night. The Telegraph was full of praise for Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding Jr, saying that 'Gooding...is the real deal'.

The Guardian said that 'The show is harsh, cynical and funny and chimes well with an age that understands the psychotic nature of celebrity', with the Metro praising the female characters saying 'With Ruthie Henshall as Mama Morton, ultimately it is not Gooding but the women in this show who will keep the longest running American musical, now back in the West End after a five-year absence, running even longer.'

We're glad to see Chicago back on the West End, here's to All That Jazz!
