Imelda Staunton's Hello, Dolly! is a five star hit

Dame Imelda makes a triumphant return to the West End in the classic musical, bowling over the critics with her turn as matchmaker Dolly Levi.
Opening at the London Palladium last night, this new production of Jerry Herman and Micheal Stewart's classic Broadway musical made quite the splash with the critics. Directed by Dominic Cooke and starring the one and only Dame Imelda Staunton, this big-budget revival delights, weaving an emotional thread through the story of a widow seeking a second chance at love.
"Imelda Staunton plays the matchmaker with stunning results. Dominic Cooke's production is immaculately performed and slowly, beautifully life-affirming, with humour that reins in the schmaltz."
The Guardian
"Imelda Stanton delights in an old-fashioned extravaganza. Dominic Cooke delivers musical comedy at its bonkers best at the London Palladium. Staunton delights in the witty story of a gutsy, gifted woman outsmarting every man around her while also drawing out its poignancy. It's an irresistible performance. By the end, like Horace Vandergelder, the rich old tightwad whose heart she melts and whose purse-strings she loosens, you just have to surrender."
Financial Times
"Good old-fashioned razzmatazz gleams brighter than ever. Imelda Staunton brings heart and substance to this lavish feast, as Dominic Cooke's revival of the 1964 show lights up the London Palladium. Dolly Levi is a wonderful creation, especially in musical theatre, an art form that the works of Stephen Sondheim aside doesn't always make much space for grown women. She's a widow, matchmaker and general fixer who's living on her wits in hectic turn-of-the-century New York. Here, she's imbued with a sense of restless energy and bubbling mischievousness by Staunton."
The Independent
"Imelda Staunton is at the top of her game in stunning performance. Imelda Staunton steps into the character immortalised by Barbra Streisand and proves there is nothing like a Dame for remaking a role in her own image. She joins the illustrious roll call of Dollys that include Carol Channing, Ethel Merman and Bette Midler."
