The first trailer has dropped for Hamnet, the highly anticipated historical drama directed by Oscar-winner Chlo Zhao. Starring Paul Mescal (Aftersun, Gladiator II) and Jessie Buckley (Men, Wicked Little Letters), the film is a cinematic adaptation of Maggie O'Farrell's acclaimed 2020 novel.
Set in 16th-century England during the Black Plague, Hamnet offers a reimagined portrait of William Shakespeare and his wife, Agnes, as they navigate the devastating loss of their 11-year-old son, Hamnet.

The cast also includes Jacobi Jupe as Hamnet, Joe Alwyn as Bartholomew, and Emily Watson as Mary Shakespeare.
The film will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival before opening in cinemas later in the year.
