Jennifer Saunders fans won't be disappointed
The comedian treads the boards for the first time in 20 years
Dom Dromgoole's Oscar Wilde season continues apace with this bright revival of the early Wilde classic directed by Kathy Burke and starring Saunders. Greeted with a warm reception from the critics, The Telegraph praised Saunders' 'sublime deadpan gifts', noting that 'fans would be mad to miss it'. The Guardian noted that 'She offers a gently simmering comic portrait of a woman so bound by the conventions of her class that she has become a bit of a joke, perhaps even to herself.' And the Evening Standard concluded her presence was 'a failsafe tonic against the January blues'
One of the great Irish writer's most quotable plays, Lady Windermere's Fan is the story of a young aristocrat who discovers her husband may be playing away on the day of her coming of age Birthday Party. A mixture of absurdity and serious emotion, misunderstandings, blackmail and petty gossip, it's a quintessential way to enjoy Wilde for new fans and a welcome classic for those a little older.
Now showing at the Vaudeville Theatre until April 7th
