Reviews

The Guardian

"His intrepid tale of a sailing team atop the high seas spumes with good intentions."

"The production's sails are raised in an opening scene featuring a projection of waves (good work by video designer Jack Baxter)"

"The endeavour quickly runs aground...the songs repeatedly, needlessly, remind us that these are women at sea."

AllThatDazzles

"An admirable set design transforms the stage into the ship with some simple but satisfying transformations...Impressive use of video design from Jack Baxter, almost immersing you on the open seas."

"Make Waves' is the strongest of the lot, showing the clear talent the writers have...The lyrics are also in need of tightening up with an overuse of rhymes, no matter how clumsily they fit."

"It is in desperate need of more power if Maiden Voyage wants to stay afloat."

WhatsOnStage

"Much like a Christmas film you rewatch every year, it wraps you in warmth and goodwill."

"Comfort theatre: wholesome, heartening, and undeniably charming."

"It's a shame there wasn't more variation to reflect each character's personality or journey."

West End Best Friend

"Maiden Voyage sets sail with ambition, promising a rousing tale of female empowerment, high-seas adventure, and underdog triumph."

"The set design is imaginative, filled with sails, ropes and cleverly integrated video projections."

"Carmel Dean's score is repetitive but finds some moments of inspiration...Many songs feel forgettable, despite the cast's obvious vocal talent."

"The dialogue is often awkward and glib, with few moments of genuine emotion."
