I'd have given 4-5 stars were it not for Americanisms spoken by the English actors.
This is a very clever play, I think, looking at who we all are at home, off-stage as it were for public figures. Are we most ourselves when having a beer, amid thin walls? Bits are very funny. It is brilliantly acted - Robert Lindsay leads a stellar cast - Jemma Redgrave, Rachel Pickup, Andrew Havill, the maid even - everyone. But WHY has no one told the American author about the incorrect use of "Your highness" - for a King & Queen? It is always, always 'Your Majesty' - and then, only once, first thing in the morning and Sir or Ma'am (as in jam.) I wouldn't mind if it was the American characters speaking thus, but the English equerry in 1938 mis-speaks in the same way - and to boot replies, "I'm good" - which no English person would ever say and the King says, "Figures." !!! A simple sweep up of these glaring errors (constantly commented on by 2 old women behind me) would improve it immensely. The writer should take notes from an English writer / director - before press night!!
