Lyrical, Quietly Piercing, and Beautifully Poised
The Lady from the Sea at the Bridge Theatre is a gentle slow-burn that sneaks up on you. The production leans into atmosphere/sea/dream hues, murmuring soundscapes, and clean, unfussy staging that keeps the focus on the people. It feels graceful rather than flashy, and the pull of the ocean is there in every beat. What really lands is the play’s heart: freedom versus duty, the ache of what-ifs, and the courage it takes to choose. It’s measured, occasionally unhurried, but the payoff is tender and clear. Thoughtful, quietly moving theatre.
The Lady from The Sea
Did not enjoy it, left after the interval. Don't believe Ibsen would have enjoyed this rendition of a deeply dramatic play. It was a contemporary effort by Simon Stone, which did not work for me and other friends. It was raw, blunt, 'shouty' with may unnecessary expletives. The English spoken word is such a joy, some of this dialogue was verging on an Eastenders type of delivery with a more polished accent. Last saw Simon-Russell-Beale at The Bridge - now that was a joy!
