Nanny McPhee

Nanny McPhee at Aldwych Theatre

Why see Nanny McPhee?

West End Debut!

Unruly children of London, you'd better be on your best behaviour because the magical Nanny McPhee is coming to the West End! Oscar-winning writer and actress Emma Thompson, who both wrote the screenplay and starred as the famous Nanny in the beloved film version, is behind this brand new musical adaptation premiering at the Aldwych Theatre in 2027. Katy Rudd (The Ocean at the End of the Lane) directs the story’s stage debut, with music and lyrics by Gary Clark (Sing Street) and choreography by Ellen Kane (Paddington). Based on the much loved, eccentric world of Christianna Brand and Edward Ardizzone’s Nurse Matilda character, the colourful tale of the curious Nanny won hearts the world over in the 2005 movie, starring Colin Firth, Imelda Staunton, Angela Lansbury, and of course Emma Thompson, among others. Don’t miss Nanny McPhee leaping onto the West End for the first time!

What Is The Story?

Widowed undertaker Cedric Brown is struggling to manage his seven very naughty children, who have successfully driven off seventeen previous nannies. But the unruly brood meets their match in Nanny McPhee, a mysterious figure with a crooked nose, jagged teeth, and a magical walking stick, who turns up one day to take care of them. As she introduces her strict lessons of behavior, a strange transformation starts to take place… the children will soon learn that there’s far more to the new nanny than meets the eye!
