Almeida Theatre presents a brand-new play that explores the oil crisis through the eyes of a mother and daughter. Ella Hickson, one of Britain's newest generation of playwrights, first made her name at the age of 23 in 2011 with Eight, a play of different monologues which garnered critical acclaim in the West End. Anne-Marie Duff makes a welcome return to the London stage as The Mother, whilst Yolanda Kettle stars opposite as her Daughter.
Oil is a drama that examines in depth over the course of 100 years, man's relationship with black gold, from its first rushes in 1889 through to this year, where the play predicts that oil will finally run out. Viewed as the rise and fall of an empire through the lives of a mother and daughter, it is set to provoke debate in both the press and with theatregoers everywhere. It'll be directed by modern theatre's go-to avant-gardist Carrie Cracknell.
