Return to Elm House at Battersea Arts Centre

Why see Return to Elm House?

Explore The Lost Legacy Of Britain's First Female Civil Servant

The Battersea Arts Centre's brand new immersive theatre experience 'Return To Elm House' conjures theatrical magic this holiday season. Perfect for parents and children alike, the heartwarming and long-lost tale of Wandsworth resident Jeanie Nassau Senior comes to vivid life in the hidden corridors and beneath the floorboards of the historic centre itself!

Families are invited to explore the centre to look for clues and discover the hidden secrets about Britain's first female civil servant and vocal advocate for social injustices. In 1873 Nassau was elected government inspector of workhouses, with a special interest in the education of orphaned pauper girls. Known amongst all classes for her wisdom, kindness and generosity of spirit, the inspiring woman lived in Elm House, which once stood on the very foundations of the Arts Center.
