The Guilty

The Guilty at Harold Pinter Theatre

Why see The Guilty?

Acclaimed Thriller's West End Transfer

After completely selling out in its Off-West End run at the Donmer Warehouse, Chloe Moss' adaptation of crime thriller The Guilty transfers to the West End. Based on the Danish film Den Skyldige ("The Guilty") by Emil Nygaard Albertsen and Gustav Moller, which also had an American film adaptation in 2021 with Jake Gyllenhaal, Russell Tovey reprises the role police officer Joe, a part in which he completely captivated audiences during the original run. Punchdrunk founder Felix Barrett directs this gripping production as it heads into the Harold Pinter theatre.

What is the story?

Joe is a police officer working the overnight shift, handling 999 calls. The office is dead and he's fielding the inevitable phone-ins from the drunk and disorderly, until a distressing call comes in from a woman named Emily, who has been kidnapped, with two young kids at home. Stuck at the desk and forced to communicate in code as Emily tries to avoid her captor's detection, Joe must frantically put the clues together to try and locate her. As the pursuit gains momentum and working solely through the phone line, his drive to fix the situation may cause him to overstep his official boundaries, taking matters into his own hands far beyond the line of duty.
