World Premiere

Starring Stranger Things' Noah Schnapp

This buzzy new play by Andy Sandberg enjoys its world premiere this autumn at Riverside Studios. Based on true events, Affluenza is a razor-sharp exploration of power, privilege and generational wealth, as evidenced by one of the most reviled American legal defences of recent times.

What Is The Story?

After the scion of a rich family causes a tragic car crash in The Hamptons, the summer playground of the ultra-wealthy, his very expensive lawyers mount an outrageous legal defence: claiming he was simply too affluent to know the difference between right and wrong, namely, he's got a bad case of 'Affluenza'. Shocking and darkly comic, Affluenza is a thoughtful look at accountability, family legacy, and the efficacy of the American justice system versus a vast multi-generational fortune.
