The Barber of Seville

The Royal Opera House revive their celebrated production of Rossini's comic masterpiece this season. Staged by Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier, and debuted in 2005, this light and fizzy version has been a centrepiece of the company's recent repertoire, and really brings Rossini's comic flair to the fore! Hungarian Henrik Nanasi returns to the Royal Opera after his debut in 2013 to conduct, while the cast includes Javier Camarena, Daniela Mack and Vito Priante.

The first story starring the mischievous Count Almavira and his wily servant Figaro (later both seen in The Marriage of Figaro), The Barber of Seville charts the Count's efforts in wooing the witty beauty Rosina, right out from under the nose of Dr Bartolo. Full of devious disguises, and hilarious mishaps, it remains one of the funniest and most frenetic operas ever composed!
