Morgan und Abend

Morgan und Abend at Royal Opera House

Why see Morgan und Abend?

THE WORLD PREMIERE OF AN EXCITING NEW BALLET

This highly anticipated new opera by Austrian composer Georg Friedrich Haas marks his first commission from The Royal Opera, and is based on the seminal Norwiegan novel by poet, author and playwright Jon Fosse. Meaning Morning and Evening, the opera takes a quietly meditative look at the life of a fisherman, from his birth, right up to his death, and the beyond. This new work is directed by Birmingham Opera Company's Graham Vick.

Georg Friedrich Haas is described as one of modern opera's most relevant composers, having shot to international fame with in vain (2000). His works all contain an intense and highly charged atmosphere, made possible by his use of modern musical techniques that play between very different sound scapes. Haas' latest works have demonstrated his willingness to experiment, in works such as ins Licht (2007) and ATTHIS (2009).
