The Red Shoes

The Red Shoes at Sadlers Wells Theatre

Why see The Red Shoes?

The Olivier Award Award winner returns

Matthew Bourne's Olivier award-winning The Red Shoes returns to the Sadler's Wells this Christmas. Based on the 1948 Powell and Pressburger film, which is in turn based on the tragic fairytale by Hans Christian Anderson, The Red Shoes is the story of a talented young dancer who finds herself torn between love and her career, with heartbreaking consequences.

With Bourne being honoured with a 2019 Olivier award for his extraordinary achievements in dance, this brand new run of his acclaimed production is set to throb with even more glamour, romance and heartbreak. Astonishing critics in its premiere back in 2016, The Red Shoes is a story of possession, passion and all-encompassing obsession, all wrapped up in the other-wordly choreography that Bourne is so famous for.

Accompanied by the New Adventures Orchestra (Bourne's own company), The Red Shoes features musical direction by Terry Davies with design by Lez Brotherston.
