Pinocchio

Pinocchio at Shakespeares Globe Theatre

Why see Pinocchio?

I'm A Real Boy!

Pinocchio comes to life in this new musical stage adaptation of Carlo Collodi's timeless tale, from Shakespeare's Globe! Directed by Sean Holmes, The Globe's anticipated version of the wooden puppet with dreams of becoming a real boy, has a book and lyrics by the award-winning Charli Josephine (Cowbois), alongside Olivier nominee Jim Fortune on music and lyrics.

Pinocchio is so popular that it has been adapted for the stage over a dozen times, was reimagined by Disney, and is the subject of storybooks worldwide. While the fairy tale classic is known for emphasizing the significance of truth and the repercussions of dishonesty, this special Globe adaptation offers a new take on its timely themes, without missing a single beat of the action.

What is the story?

Carved from a piece of animated wood by a toy maker named Geppetto, who yearns for a son, a puppet named Pinocchio magically comes to life following a falling star and a heartfelt wish. However, Pinocchio is not the best-behaved of young puppets (his nose will certainly attest to that). The troublesome marionette, along with his opinionated conscience, Jiminy Cricket, embarks on a fantastical journey to discover his true self and to become what he has always wished to be - a real human boy.
